A motorist has been held by Dubai police over the run-over death of a Emirati female cyclist. Mizna Abbullah Ali, a member of Al Wathba cycling team, was training with teammates on Wednesday in the Meydan area of the city when a car hit her. The incident is under investigation by Dubai traffic prosecution. A source said the motorist, a 21-year-old male Emirati, faces manslaughter charges if he is found to be speeding and failing to pay attention to the road. Manslaughter is punishable by up to seven years in prison. He will also be ordered to pay Dh200,000 in blood money. Ali was within the yellow line when the collision happened, teammates said. They called police and ambulance services, but Ali died the same day in hospital. The team were in training for next week's NAS Sport Tournament. The sport's body wrote: "Our deepest condolences to the family of cyclist Mizna Ali who died following a tragic accident." Hundreds of mourners took to social media to offer condolences and prayers for Ali.
