The drivers of Dubai's trams will be scanned with facial recognition software to monitor stress levels and signs of fatigue. Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) said the Raqeeb or 'controller' system is being rolled out to ensure safety standards remain high. If a driver shows signs of tiredness or lack of concentration, an alert is sent from the main control room via a series of sounds and seat vibrations. “The idea is to have the system read the driver’s face features and activities while driving to ensure the highest safety standards,” said Ahmed Bahrozyan, head of the RTA's Licensing Agency. “International studies have revealed that 95 per cent of bus accidents are caused by human error and this also applies to the tram since it is also controlled by a driver.” Mr Bahrozyan also said the system is being trialled in goods lorries as well.
