Mawaqif parking permits for Central Market residents from October 7

ABU DHABI // Residents near Central Market can apply for Mawaqif parking permits starting on October 7.

They can visit the Mawaqif customer service office at the Central Market. The deadline for applications is on October 23.

On Monday, the Department of Transport said it began issuing Mawaqif permits for residents of Sector East 1 and 2 in the Central Market area to ensure adequate parking in the city centre.

Sector East 1 is the area between Corniche Road, Salam Street, 10th Street and Airport Road. Sector East 2 is between Salam Street, Hamdan Street to the south, 10th Street and Airport Road.

The permits, which are virtual, are available to owners, tenants and their families. Each household is limited to two parking permits. The annual permits are Dh800 for the first car and Dh1,200 for a second. Each permit is specific to the vehicle and the sector.

To apply for a permit, residents must provide a passport copy with a valid residency visa, an Emirates ID, tenancy contract authenticated by Abu Dhabi Municipality, last utility bill and proof of vehicle ownership.

Instead of a physical permit, drivers’ details will be logged in a database and parking inspectors will be able to track cars by license plate number.

A residents-only parking area for permit-holders is available between 9pm and 8am. Those who park without a permit will be fined Dh500. Parking is free, however, on Fridays and public holidays.
