The number of people caught not wearing seatbelts in Sharjah has declined in the past nine months, police said.
Violations for not wearing seatbelts fell 47.5 per cent, with 8,781 recorded in the past nine months compared to 27,238 fines in the same period last year, according to statistics provided by Sharjah Police.
“Wearing seatbelts saves lives. Thus, police constantly launch awareness campaigns to shed light on the importance of buckling up. Wearing a seatbelt reduces serious injuries and deaths in accidents,” said Maj Abdul Rahman Khatir, director of traffic awareness at Sharjah Police.

Maj Khatir also emphasised the importance of correctly placing a child’s car seat. “Placing children in car seats ensures their safety,” he said.
Drivers will be fined Dh400 and receive four black points on their licence for failing to ensure that all adults and children in their car are buckled up, according to the recent traffic rule amendments.
