Three die on Dubai’s waters so far this year, police say



DUBAI // Three people have died in the emirate’s waters since the beginning of the year.

There have been a total of 33 maritime incidents from January until now, which have also seen 33 people suffer minor injuries, four suffer medium injuries and five suffer severe injuries.

Major Ali Abdullah Algosaib Al Naqbi, head of the Maritime Rescue Department at Dubai Police, said they had taken on 233 missions this year — 64 calls for help, four delegation accompaniment missions, 75 missions to secure official events, 30 search and recovery missions, 57 internal support operations and three photography missions.

The department also attended 10 boat collisions and jet ski assistance missions, reported The National’s Arabic sister paper, Al Ittihad.

Major Al Naqbi said maritime rescue points are located in Al Hamriya Port, Dubai Creek, at the Floating Bridge, Jumeirah Port 1, fishermen’s dock 1, Jumeirah Port 4, fishermen’s dock 2, Umm Suqeim, fishermen’s port 3 and Port Rashid.

He added that there are plans to increase the number of maritime rescue patrols points accordingly with the increasing population of Dubai.
