Two people were killed and 16 injured in motorbike crashes on the roads of Ras Al Khaimah last year, police said. A senior police officer said awareness campaigns had played a key role in cutting the number of accidents in the past three years, but issued a plea to riders to continue to put safety first. Twenty-three people were injured and one person died in biking accidents in 2017, while four riders lost their lives and another 44 were hurt during incidents recorded in 2016. Colonel Ahmad Al Naqbi, acting director-general of central operations at RAK Police, stressed the importance of wearing helmets when out on the road. “A Dh500 fine and four traffic points will be issued in case the driver or the passenger of the motorbike are not wearing a helmet,” said Col Al Naqbi.
