The UAE and Saudi Arabia have extinguished a fire at a checkpoint on the border between the two countries. Black plumes of smoke rose over Al Batha Border Checkpoint as the fire destroyed cars and trucks parked at the warehouse, according to the kingdom's state news agency SPA. The fire broke out at 12.30pm on Sunday and civil defence teams from Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia were called to the scene. A team from Al Dhafra Region Municipality and four private businesses helped extinguish the fire at the Saudi customs facility using 10 water tanks. Meanwhile, officials cordoned off the area and removed any flammable material - such as paints, oil, clothes, batteries and cars - from the vicinity "This is a direct outcome of the readiness training the [civil defence teams] conduct on a regular basis to hone their skills and boost their capabilities,” said Maj Gen Mohammed Al Rumaithi. "Supporting our brothers in emergencies that threaten their safety and stability is part and parcel of the measures we take to safeguard our security and national stability." No casualties were reported.
