UAE-funded housing project in Kabul begins

The construction of a Dh400 million Abu-Dhabi-funded housing project in Kabul, which will house over 3300 families, has begun.

The facility is part of Dh918m grant allocated by the President, Sheikh Khalifa, to help reconstruction of Afghanistan, said the state news agency Wam.

“The grant will effectively contribute to the support of the Afghan government’s efforts to achieve comprehensive development,” said Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, acting director general of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

Mr Al Suwaidi was at the ceremony to lay the foundation stone along with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and other UAE officials.
