A delighted UAE labourer found his lucky number – after landing a new sports car thanks to telecommunications company du. Balvir Singh, from India, was handed the keys to a luxury McLaren 570S Spider after being entered into a competition by renewing the registration of his mobile number. Mr Singh, 31, a carpenter in Ras Al Khaimah, said the win would change his life. “Thanks to du, this unexpected prize has improved the future of my life and also the lives of my friends and family,” he said. “It is truly life-changing and I am blessed and overwhelmed at the opportunities this has provided me. Car enthusiasts can expect to pay more than Dh700,000 for the McLaren 570S, which has a top speed of 328 kilometres per hour and can go from zero to 100kph in just more than three seconds. All du customers who renewed their account ID registration by January 31 were entered into the draw to win the supercar. “At du, we strive to spread happiness and joy among our customers,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, deputy chief executive at du. “And this is a testament to what we are trying to achieve.” The car competition is just the latest drive by du to give back to the community. Only last month it was announced that 40,000 labourers across three emirates would be treated to weekly free cinema screenings and mobile phone top-ups by the company. The films are being shown on big screens every Thursday, until next month, at 40 worker accommodation sites in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
