A woman who attempted to suffocate her two young children has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The 25-year-old Bangladeshi smothered the boys, aged just four and two, with a pillow before slitting her own wrist.
Her husband arrived home from work to find his wife bleeding and his older son motionless and the younger child unconscious.
The father, 39, called his brother, who arrived and took the woman and the two children to hospital.
The harrowing incident took place on April 21, 2017, Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The father said his wife was sat next to a bed yelling "what have I done" when he got home.
The woman was questioned by police after receiving medical treatment, telling officers she had attempted to kill her children but did not know why.
A medical report stated that the younger child suffered heart and lung failure, causing severe brain damage.
He was diagnosed as brain dead and remains on life support.
A detailed medical report was submitted by Rashid hospital following which the court convicted the woman of two counts of attempted murder and an attempted suicide charge.
The woman, who was also fined Dh2,000, will be deported after serving her jail term.
