DUBAI // Two women got into a fight with two men near the toilets of a hotel after one of the men allegedly pulled a woman’s top down, revealing her breast.
Dubai Court of Misdemeanours heard that it was nearly 4am on March 28 last year when the friend of 30-year-old Moroccan saleswoman S B headed to the hotel’s toilet, leaving her near the lift.
Seconds later, the saleswoman heard her friend scream and ran to check on her.
The friend, D A, whose age and nationality were not given in records, told S B that a man had uncovered her breast and touched her.
“There is one door that leads to a corridor and inside you find two doors, for men’s and women’s rest-rooms,” said SB . “She told me that when she passed the first door, a man came in and suddenly pulled her shirt down uncovering her breast.”
She said the fight started when her friend asked the man why he did it and he started shouting at the women.
The two women started fighting with H J, 27, from Lebanon, and his friend, who arrived after hearing the shouting. Security guards at the hotel in Bur Dubai separated them.
Egyptian security guard E A told prosecutors that D A said she had been molested by H J. “I stopped them from hitting each other and walked them outside the hotel,” said the guard.
Once outside, the guard said they started fighting again and H J smashed a glass ashtray, inuring his hand, then S B, while attacking H J with her handbag to stop him from leaving before police arrived, was knocked to the ground.
“She fell to the floor, hitting her head, and the two men left the place, after which police arrived,” said the security guard.
Records show that D A showed no interest in pursuing a criminal case but S B insisted on accusing the two men of assaulting and insulting her.
Prosecutors did not charge H J with molestation for lack of evidence but he and S B were both charged with assaulting each other physically, while H J and his countryman, K M, 33, were charged with insulting S B, who was also charged with insulting the two men.
In court, each of them denied all charges against them but they were all convicted and fined Dh2,000 each.
