ABU DHABI // The number of labourers injured at work fell by 11 per cent last year, with 85 injuries compared to 96 the year before, according to police statistics.
Colonel Mohammed Al Amri, director of emergency and public safety at Abu Dhabi Police, said the reduction was caused by better awareness among labourers and employers about health and safety procedures.
Increasing first-aid training to labourers had also helped them deal with injuries before emergency services arrive, he said.
Captain Yussuf Al Naqbi, head of the community ambulance division, said that the his team’s aim was to reduce response time and to ensure the stability of any injured workers while ambulances arrived.
He said his department also ran outreach campaigns focusing on how to deal with domestic incidents, heart attacks, strokes and diabetics, as well as delivering first aid for children.

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
