Police said the man, who has not been identified, was first spotted doing wheel spins in the vehicle in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Officers dispatched to the scene tried to persuade him to stop, even firing several warning shots into the air, according to reports. But the driver ignored their pleas to pull over, shooting back at police with his own weapon before crashing his car into one of their vehicles. He later died of his injuries in hospital. It is not yet known what weapon he was carrying. “A young man paid with his life for driving recklessly and failing to follow orders to stop,” Abu Dhabi Police said on their official Twitter account. “Abu Dhabi Police regrets the tragic accident and pays its condolences to the family of the deceased.”
