Danish police cut off the eastern island of Zealand, where the capital of Copenhagen sits, from the rest of the country and neighbours Germany and Sweden for several hours on Friday during a police manhunt reportedly linked to a kidnapping.
Danish police said they were looking for a Swedish-registered Volvo V90 in connection with an ongoing investigation. "In the vehicle there are probably 3 people" wanted for a "serious crime," a statement said
Ferry crossings to Germany and Sweden were stopped as were bridges from Zealand to the main island of Funen and Sweden. As a result of the chaos and confusion, extensive traffic queues formed. The Denmark-Sweden road was later reopened and ferry crossings resumed.
The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, citing an unnamed police source, said the car was being sought in connection with a kidnapping. It was later found but police did not say if arrests had been made.
The car had been stolen from an airport near Malmo, Sweden's third biggest city, four weeks earlier.

The term ‘biodiversity’ is relatively new, popularised since the 1980s and coinciding with an understanding of the growing threats to the natural world including habitat loss, pollution and climate change. The loss of biodiversity itself is dangerous because it contributes to clean, consistent water flows, food security, protection from floods and storms and a stable climate. The natural world can be an ally in combating global climate change but to do so it must be protected. Nations are working to achieve this, including setting targets to be reached by 2020 for the protection of the natural state of 17 per cent of the land and 10 per cent of the oceans. However, these are well short of what is needed, according to experts, with half the land needed to be in a natural state to help avert disaster.
