David Cameron jets in to Dubai diamond conference

The former British prime minister David Cameron will be flying into the UAE next week to attend a $1,000-a-head event in Dubai hosted by a business organisation.

The Dubai Diamond Exchange will be having its third conference, which is themed ‘Shaping the future of an interconnected marketplace’, and they have recruited Mr Cameron, who left office after losing a referendum on Britain’s continuing membership of the European Union, to address the event.

Mr Cameron will address an audience of key figures in the global diamond industry, including government ministers of countries involved in diamond mining, and traders, financiers and world-renowned jewellers.

Since he stepped down in June 2016, Mr Cameron has struggled to find a role for himself in the world. Previous British prime ministers have either set up foundations to continue you on key projects that they championed while in office, or taken up international governance jobs.

Mr Cameron has remained largely supportive of the prime minister who replaced him, Theresa May, and has mostly been in the headlines for reports on his private life.

He has been pictured attending music festivals and in April 2017 he revealed to The Sunday Times that he had bought a shepherd's hut worth £25,000 which contained a wood-burning stove, sofa bed and sheep's wool insulation, in which he was going to write his memoirs.
