George Floyd's seven-year-old daughter has given a moving speech in memory of her slain father outside the trial venue for former police officer Derek Chauvin. Mr Chauvin stands accused of murdering Floyd on May 25 last year in front of crowds who looked on in horror as the black man was asphyxiated. Chauvin's trial began on Monday, 307 days since Mr Floyd died in the custody of police. Floyd was arrested after allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill to buy cigarettes. Family members of Floyd gathered outside the court to kneel in his memory at 8:46am, symbolising the eight minutes and 46 seconds Derek Chauvin had his knee on Floyd's neck. Floyd's wife and daughter spoke to ABC News shortly before the start of the trial. His young daughter spoke out about her memories of her father, and what she expects to be missing in her formative years. Gianna Floyd said the one thing she wanted the world to know was the type of father Floyd was. "He was kind and he was nice to my momma all the time," she said, sitting next to her mother, Roxie Washington. Ms Washington also reflected on the type of man Floyd had been. "We were friends," she said. "He [Floyd] told me everything. We would talk. He always said that I made him the man that he was. But I think it was kind of vice versa: he made me into the woman that I am. I've always been like stand up. But the heart that he had, you know, he just had a good heart." Floyd's brothers, other relatives, the family's lawyers and hundreds of supporters also spoke outside the Hennepin County Court.
