Prince Khalid bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's deputy defence minister, met the US special envoy on Iran, Elliot Abrams, as part of efforts to strengthen stability and security in the region. Prince Khalid bin Salman confirmed the meeting on Twitter: “We discussed our mutual efforts to preserve regional stability, and ways to confront current security challenges, within the framework of our two countries' strategic partnership." On Tuesday, the US imposed Iran-related sanctions on six companies and four individuals, accusing them of supplying an Iranian military company with sensitive goods, in the latest move by Trump administration to increase pressure on Tehran. In the statement, the US Treasury Department accused companies and individuals of facilitating the purchase of sensitive goods, including electronic equipment of American origin, for Iran Communications Industries, a company affiliated with the Iranian military and blacklisted by Washington and the European Union. This move, taken under a mandate to impose sanctions on manufactures and distributors of weapons of mass destruction, freezes any US assets of those blacklisted and prevents American citizens from conducting any business with them.
