Michael Nyqvist, most famous for his role in the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, has died of lung cancer at the age of 57.
The actor, who battled the disease for a year, died surrounded by his family in Stockholm, a statement from his spokeswoman Alissa Goodman said.
"Michael's joy and passion were infectious to those who knew and loved him. His charm and charisma were undeniable, and his love for the arts was felt by all who had the pleasure of working with him," the statement said.
The actor is survived by his wife Catharina Ehrnrooth, and children, Ellen and Arthur.
Best known for his role in Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Nyqvist played journalist Mikael Blomkvist opposite Noomi Rapace.
He also appeared as the villain in Hollywood action films, John Wick and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the latter which comprised of extensive shooting in Dubai. You can see him in action in the trailer below.

In 2010, Nyqvist released autobiographical memoir Just After Dreaming where he recounted his quest to find his biological parents, following his adoption 30 years prior.
