American rapper A$AP Rocky has been found guilty of assault by a Swedish court, following a brawl in Stockholm. The 30-year-old, whose real name is Rakim Mayers was given a suspended sentence on Wednesday. Two members of A$AP Rocky's entourage were also convicted of the same crime. "In an overall assessment the court finds that the assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen," the court said in a statement. "The defendants are therefore sentenced to conditional sentences." A$AP Rocky was detained on July 3 following a brawl on June 30 in which he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. In its verdict, the court said the musician and the two members of his entourage "assaulted the victim by hitting and kicking him as he lay on the ground. The artist has also thrown the victim to the ground and stepped on his arm". The three were "not in a situation where they were entitled to self-defence", the court added. A$AP Rocky had been held in custody in Sweden until August 2, the close of proceedings, and immediately returned to the United States. He was not present for the verdict. His detention had caused outrage among fans and US President Donald Trump, who had called for Sweden to release him.
