Position Assistant National Editor
Location Abu Dhabi, UAE

The National, the Middle East’s leading quality news title, is looking for an Assistant National Editor to join our Abu Dhabi newsroom.

The successful candidate will join our National News desk, which covers UAE news across all our platforms with exclusive stories, entertaining features and penetrating analysis.

You should be an experienced news editor, fluent in English, with an eye for a story and a gift for finessing copy into its most readable form. The job involves helping to run a team of reporters so strong management skills are required, as are organisation skills and an unflinching attention to detail.

You must have experience working for a news organisation, ideally in the UAE, and the ability to multi-task under the pressure of deadlines. Knowledge of web analytics, SEO headlining and social media trends is an advantage.

Please note that this role will consist predominantly of late shifts up to 11pm.

Position Digital Designer
Location Abu Dhabi, UAE

The National, the leading English-language news organisation in the Middle East, is looking to hire a Digital Designer to drive the user experience on its suite of multi-channel products and services.

Across web, app, social and email, our digital platforms are the showcase for our brand, content and reporters - so best-in-class UX and UI are critical to our business, driving the reach and impact of our journalism in the region and around the world.

The Digital Designer will be proficient in both product and content design, enthused by establishing and implementing design systems, and comfortable working closely with both technical and editorial colleagues.

The role will report to our Creative Director within a team of designers, while also partnering with our Head of Digital Strategy and associated product, platform, audience, development and analytics teams.

Candidates should have at least five years’ experience working for a major news organisation in an editing or reporting capacity. You should have an eye for a story and the ability to turn ideas into compelling stories told across platforms. Knowledge of web analytics, SEO headlining and social media trends is crucial. You must possess strong editing skills.

An understanding of Middle Eastern politics, culture and society is vital. Fluency in English is required, Arabic an advantage.

Position Head of Multimedia

You must have a keen eye for detail as you will be required to grow The National’s product offering and audience reach across digital and social.

You must have demonstrable experience in the development of tools and features across digital platforms such as APPs, market data, content presentation optimisation, voice and tools such as blogging platforms.

Position Homepage Editor
Location London, UK

The National, the leading Middle East news organisation, is looking for a Homepage Editor to work in our London Bureau.

The Homepage Editor is responsible for news coverage, the curation of The National’s homepages and the provision of digital leadership in shifts across the week. The London bureau is a seven-day operation with some evening shifts undertaken by the homepage team. The Homepage editor also takes a lead in planning digital packages around big news events or breaking news, and relies on live analytics to be guided in decision-making to maximise audience engagement at all times. The Homepage Editor is also responsible for enriching the bureau content and ensuring journalists are more effective in growing our audience.

Candidates should have at least five years’ experience as a web editor, possess strong editing skills and show a demonstrable portfolio of published work. Previous experience running an online platform of web and mobile for a large company is also important.

Position Deputy Business Editor

The National is looking for a Deputy Business Editor to assist in overseeing our business coverage.

The Deputy Business Editor will be responsible for liaising with reporters, assigning and editing copy, ensuring deadlines are met and packaging content for both print and digital platforms.

A strong knowledge across business sectors, and an expert understanding of the energy industry, is required. Due to the swift nature of the work, experience in a wire agency or fast-paced digital operation, is favoured.

A good working knowledge of best practice in web publishing, SEO and understanding digital trends is useful.

Local and regional experience is an advantage and candidates who read and speak Arabic are strongly preferred.

 

 

Position Social Media Journalist
Location Washington, DC, United States

The National, the leading Middle East news organisation, is looking to hire a Social Media Journalist to be based in our bureau in Washington DC.

Candidates should be social media natives with a passion for creative and innovative storytelling, demonstrate a deep interest in news and current affairs, have an excellent understanding of social audiences, social media trends and analytics, and how data informs our strategy.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of two years’ newsroom experience. Requirements include:

  • Experience with CMS, social publishing tools and social content creation, essential
  • Strong editorial judgement, copywriting and SEO writing skills essential
  • Ability to understand and use social analytics to inform strategy
  • Adaptable, resilient and able to work across multiple teams based in locations across the world
  • Creativity and the initiative to respond effectively to an ever-changing news agenda and workload
  • Experience managing social media accounts for publishers and established brands is highly desirable
  • Willingness to work shifts, some weekends and some public holidays when required
