A Frasier reboot is in the works, 17 years after the hit show wrapped.
A new series about pedantic psychiatrist turned radio host Dr Frasier Crane is set to begin filming in 2022 and will be shown on Paramount+.
Lead star Kelsey Grammer confirmed the show's revival, saying: "I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr Frasier Crane."
Of the reboot, Paramount+ said that the show is “more exactly the same than ever”. It has not announced an episode count, release date or given any storyline details.
Frasier ran for 11 seasons, from 1993 to 2004, and also starred Jane Leeves as Daphne Moon, David Hyde Pierce as Niles Crane and John Mahoney as Martin Crane. Mahoney died in 2018, but it has not been confirmed which other members of the original cast would return.
The 1990s sitcom is not the only show getting rebooted by Paramount+, with popular children's cartoon Rugrats also coming back for a new audience.
Fans of Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Angelica Pickles, Susie Carmichael and Phil and Lil DeVille will be delighted to hear that the Nickelodeon animated series is being revived by the streaming platform with the original voice actors.
"Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognised by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience," said Ramsey Naito, president of Nickelodeon Animation.
“Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognisable and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
The original series debuted in 1991 and ran for nine seasons until 2004.
Films on Paramount+
Executives have also announced that a number of films will be shown on the platform, 45 days after their cinema release.
Mission: Impossible 7, A Quiet Place II and Paw Patrol will all go on to the streaming platform after their initial release.
A Quiet Place Part II, written and directed by John Krasinski and starring Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy, was originally due to open in cinemas in March 2020, but was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is now scheduled for release on Friday, September 17.
Mission: Impossible 7, which was partly filmed in the UAE, is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on Friday, November 19, and animated movie Paw Patrol is due to be released on Friday, August 20.

Tax authority targets shisha levy evasion
The Federal Tax Authority will track shisha imports with electronic markers to protect customers and ensure levies have been paid.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, director of the tax authority, on Sunday said the move is to "prevent tax evasion and support the authority’s tax collection efforts".
The scheme’s first phase, which came into effect on 1st January, 2019, covers all types of imported and domestically produced and distributed cigarettes. As of May 1, importing any type of cigarettes without the digital marks will be prohibited.
He said the latest phase will see imported and locally produced shisha tobacco tracked by the final quarter of this year.
"The FTA also maintains ongoing communication with concerned companies, to help them adapt their systems to meet our requirements and coordinate between all parties involved," he said.
As with cigarettes, shisha was hit with a 100 per cent tax in October 2017, though manufacturers and cafes absorbed some of the costs to prevent prices doubling.

Why it pays to compare
A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.
Route 1: bank transfer
The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.

Route 2: online platform
The UAE bank’s charge for sending Dh20,000 to a UK dirham-denominated account was Dh2.10. The exchange rate margin cost was Dh60, plus a Dh12 fee.
