Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are ready to crack each other up at tonight's Golden Globe Awards.
The two talents offered a taste of their quick-witted banter on a conference call with reporters last week, during which Fey promised: "We're going to sing the whole show."
Fey also joked that she would wear costumes from each of the nominated films. Poehler said she planned to catch a "blackout nap" before the ceremony.
Both women are also nominees for best actress in a television comedy for roles in the shows they write and produce. Fey is up for 30 Rock, while Poehler got the nod for Parks and Recreation.
Fey signalled that she and co-host Poehler will perhaps be less aggressive than the British comic Ricky Gervais, who hosted the awards for the past three years and took barbed, near-the-knuckle shots at the assembled A-listers.
"Our job is to keep the evening going and make it fun. Not necessarily to break comedic ground or take people down a peg," Fey said.
Among those eyeing major prizes at Tinseltown's biggest pre-Oscars awards show are Steven Spielberg, Ben Affleck and Quentin Tarantino. Spielberg's Lincoln is the front-runner for Globe glory with seven nods, ahead of Affleck's Argo and Tarantino's Django Unchained, both of which have five nominations.
Other films that received Globe nods include Les Misérables, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty, which have four nominations each. Reflecting the perhaps less highbrow taste of the 100-member Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Ang Lee's Life of Pi, which picked up 11 Oscar nominations, is running in only three Globes categories.
The three-hour awarding ceremony is preceded by several hours of Hollywood's finest strutting their stuff on the first big red carpet of the season.

What is the definition of an SME?
SMEs in the UAE are defined by the number of employees, annual turnover and sector. For example, a “small company” in the services industry has six to 50 employees with a turnover of more than Dh2 million up to Dh20m, while in the manufacturing industry the requirements are 10 to 100 employees with a turnover of more than Dh3m up to Dh50m, according to Dubai SME, an agency of the Department of Economic Development.

Will the pound fall to parity with the dollar?
The idea of pound parity now seems less far-fetched as the risk grows that Britain may split away from the European Union without a deal.
Rupert Harrison, a fund manager at BlackRock, sees the risk of it falling to trade level with the dollar on a no-deal Brexit. The view echoes Morgan Stanley’s recent forecast that the currency can plunge toward $1 (Dh3.67) on such an outcome. That isn’t the majority view yet – a Bloomberg survey this month estimated the pound will slide to $1.10 should the UK exit the bloc without an agreement.
New Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly said that Britain will leave the EU on the October 31 deadline with or without an agreement, fuelling concern the nation is headed for a disorderly departure and fanning pessimism toward the pound. Sterling has fallen more than 7 per cent in the past three months, the worst performance among major developed-market currencies.
“The pound is at a much lower level now but I still think a no-deal exit would lead to significant volatility and we could be testing parity on a really bad outcome,” said Mr Harrison, who manages more than $10 billion in assets at BlackRock. “We will see this game of chicken continue through August and that’s likely negative for sterling,” he said about the deadlocked Brexit talks.
The pound fell 0.8 per cent to $1.2033 on Friday, its weakest closing level since the 1980s, after a report on the second quarter showed the UK economy shrank for the first time in six years. The data means it is likely the Bank of England will cut interest rates, according to Mizuho Bank.
The BOE said in November that the currency could fall even below $1 in an analysis on possible worst-case Brexit scenarios. Options-based calculations showed around a 6.4 per cent chance of pound-dollar parity in the next one year, markedly higher than 0.2 per cent in early March when prospects of a no-deal outcome were seemingly off the table.

What is an FTO Designation?
FTO designations impose immigration restrictions on members of the organisation simply by virtue of their membership and triggers a criminal prohibition on knowingly providing material support or resources to the designated organisation as well as asset freezes.
It is a crime for a person in the United States or subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to knowingly provide “material support or resources” to or receive military-type training from or on behalf of a designated FTO.
Representatives and members of a designated FTO, if they are aliens, are inadmissible to and, in certain circumstances removable from, the United States.
Except as authorised by the Secretary of the Treasury, any US financial institution that becomes aware that it has possession of or control over funds in which an FTO or its agent has an interest must retain possession of or control over the funds and report the funds to the Treasury Department.
