Whitney Houston sang "How will I know, if he really loves me" and in this romantic comedy from the Terms of Endearment director James L Brooks, it's the question that faces athlete Lisa (Witherspoon) soon after she gets cut from the US national softball team. It's actually her beau, the baseball star Matty (Wilson), who posits what he thinks is the answer during one of the film's few mildly amusing scenes, but his deductions are undermined when Lisa takes a fancy to the diffident businessman George (Rudd). The success of the film largely rests on how convincing you find Paul Rudd as a romantic lead. Personally, it amazes me that he continues to be cast in such roles as his lack of both charm and classic good looks usually ends up being a plausibility issue, and that's the case here. It's so much easier to root for the charismatic cad Matty than the rich self-deprecating worry-wart George, and when a rom-com doesn't have you siding with the principal character, it's always going to run into a quagmire. Not even a jacked-up cameo from Nicholson, who is a Brooks favourite having appeared in As Good as It Gets and Broadcast News, can liven up affairs. Nicholson plays George's father Charles, a poor parent, fast talker and possible white-collar criminal. The family business is under investigation by the federal prosecutors and George, through no fault of his own, is facing jail time. Somehow Brooks believes that the more of a loser George becomes, the more attractive he becomes. He's wrong.

Where to buy art books in the UAE
There are a number of speciality art bookshops in the UAE.
In Dubai, The Lighthouse at Dubai Design District has a wonderfully curated selection of art and design books. Alserkal Avenue runs a pop-up shop at their A4 space, and host the art-book fair Fully Booked during Art Week in March. The Third Line, also in Alserkal Avenue, has a strong book-publishing arm and sells copies at its gallery. Kinokuniya, at Dubai Mall, has some good offerings within its broad selection, and you never know what you will find at the House of Prose in Jumeirah. Finally, all of Gulf Photo Plus’s photo books are available for sale at their show.
In Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi has a beautiful selection of catalogues and art books, and Magrudy’s – across the Emirates, but particularly at their NYU Abu Dhabi site – has a great selection in art, fiction and cultural theory.
In Sharjah, the Sharjah Art Museum sells catalogues and art books at its museum shop, and the Sharjah Art Foundation has a bookshop that offers reads on art, theory and cultural history.

There has been a longstanding need from the Indian community to have a religious premises where they can practise their beliefs. Currently there is a very, very small temple in Bur Dubai and the community has outgrown this. So this will be a major temple and open to all denominations and a place should reflect India’s diversity.
It fits so well into the UAE’s own commitment to tolerance and pluralism and coming in the year of tolerance gives it that extra dimension.
What we will see on April 20 is the foundation ceremony and we expect a pretty broad cross section of the Indian community to be present, both from the UAE and abroad. The Hindu group that is building the temple will have their holiest leader attending – and we expect very senior representation from the leadership of the UAE.
When the designs were taken to the leadership, there were two clear options. There was a New Jersey model with a rectangular structure with the temple recessed inside so it was not too visible from the outside and another was the Neasden temple in London with the spires in its classical shape. And they said: look we said we wanted a temple so it should look like a temple. So this should be a classical style temple in all its glory.
It is beautifully located - 30 minutes outside of Abu Dhabi and barely 45 minutes to Dubai so it serves the needs of both communities.
This is going to be the big temple where I expect people to come from across the country at major festivals and occasions.
It is hugely important – it will take a couple of years to complete given the scale. It is going to be remarkable and will contribute something not just to the landscape in terms of visual architecture but also to the ethos. Here will be a real representation of UAE’s pluralism.

What is Reform?
Reform is a right-wing, populist party led by Nigel Farage, a former MEP who won a seat in the House of Commons last year at his eighth attempt and a prominent figure in the campaign for the UK to leave the European Union.
It was founded in 2018 and originally called the Brexit Party.
Many of its members previously belonged to UKIP or the mainstream Conservatives.
After Brexit took place, the party focused on the reformation of British democracy.
Former Tory deputy chairman Lee Anderson became its first MP after defecting in March 2024.
The party gained support from Elon Musk, and had hoped the tech billionaire would make a £100m donation.
