Patti Smith penned a musical tribute to the late Amy Winehouse. "The little song for Amy just blossomed in the studio," she said. "We were at [New York recording studio] Electric Lady doing a whole other song and I wrote Amy a little poem when she died and my bass player, Tony Shanahan, wrote a piece of music and the two matched perfectly. We wrote a very nice little song for Amy Winehouse, and I think a beautiful song for Maria Schneider, the actress who was a friend of mine in the 1970s. They just happened, like gifts." Smith is not the only artist lamenting Winehouse's death in song. Last August, the punk-rockers Green Day premiered their new song Amy at a secret show in California. The lyrics referenced Winehouse's death at 27: "You're too young for the golden age/ 'Cause the record bin's been replaced/ 27 gone without a trace/ And you walked away from your drink."
