Children in Abu Dhabi are being encouraged to stay indoors and at home for now, but once they're allowed out again they'll have plenty of play areas to choose from. The Abu Dhabi City Municipality on Monday announced that 51 play areas and multi-purpose playgrounds in public and community parks across the city have been developed or upgraded. A total of Dh19 million has been poured into this project. Take a look through the photo gallery above to see a few of the new play areas. The municipality confirmed more recreational facilities and modern public service amenities will be available to the emirate's families and children. It is hoped the new and upgraded play areas will enhance communication among the community, as well as encourage people to adopt a healthier, more active lifestyle. Mini football grounds, multi-purpose playgrounds and areas for people of all ages and abilities have been installed. This also includes exercise equipment, water features, shaded hiking pathways, plus open spaces for recreation. Energy-efficient lighting systems have also been used, and a whopping 11,500 square metres of area paved by "educational and fun rubber shapes" has been introduced.
