The all-too-common endemic of premature ageing due to "urban fatigue" is what inspired the latest skincare launch from beauty giant Lancôme. The brand defines the phenomenon as "a new type of exhaustion, not simply caused by lack of sleep, but more globally by overall fatigue".

Sounds familiar? If your skin is afflicted by moisture-loss, inexplicable redness and a dull appearance, well then, you're inflicted, and Lancôme advises that you try out two products from its new Énergie De Vie skincare category, called Liquid Care.

The Liquid Care division has an exfoliating mask and an eye gel this season, both with water-based formulas that allow for easy absorption into the skin.

The brand alleges that of the women who sampled the products, 93 per cent reported that their skin felt fresher after just one use of the mask, and 73 per cent noticed reduced under-eye circles and puffiness after four weeks of using the eye gel.

The exfoliating mask costs Dh310 and the eye gel costs Dh170. Both are available at leading beauty retailers.

Two-step truce

The UN-brokered ceasefire deal for Hodeidah will be implemented in two stages, with the first to be completed before the New Year begins, according to the Arab Coalition supporting the Yemeni government.

By midnight on December 31, the Houthi rebels will have to withdraw from the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa and Al Saqef, coalition officials told The National.

The second stage will be the complete withdrawal of all pro-government forces and rebels from Hodeidah city, to be completed by midnight on January 7.

The process is to be overseen by a Redeployment Co-ordination Committee (RCC) comprising UN monitors and representatives of the government and the rebels.

The agreement also calls the deployment of UN-supervised neutral forces in the city and the establishment of humanitarian corridors to ensure distribution of aid across the country.

Six tips to secure your smart home

Most smart home devices are controlled via the owner's smartphone. Therefore, if you are using public wi-fi on your phone, always use a VPN (virtual private network) that offers strong security features and anonymises your internet connection.

Keep your smart home devices’ software up-to-date. Device makers often send regular updates - follow them without fail as they could provide protection from a new security risk.

Use two-factor authentication so that in addition to a password, your identity is authenticated by a second sign-in step like a code sent to your mobile number.

Set up a separate guest network for acquaintances and visitors to ensure the privacy of your IoT devices’ network.

Change the default privacy and security settings of your IoT devices to take extra steps to secure yourself and your home.

Always give your router a unique name, replacing the one generated by the manufacturer, to ensure a hacker cannot ascertain its make or model number.
