A Texas shelter that’s been badly damaged by a winter storm is getting help from Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
The former British royals surprised the Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support in Dallas, US with a donation.
The shelter's chief executive, Jan Langbein, said she could not disclose the amount, but that it was enough to replace the roof on the organisation's transitional housing complex, and to help with other immediate needs such as staffing.
"We were notified that through the actions of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's nonprofit, Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry and Meghan will make a donation to help us get back on our feet," Langbein said in a statement.
"Not only will this gift provide for our critical needs, it shines an international spotlight on violence against women and children, letting survivors know that they are not alone."
Millions of people in Texas lost water and power after a deadly deep freeze began on Thursday, February 11.
Amy Norton, the shelter's senior director of fund development, told CNN that the roof of its transitional housing caved in, pipes burst and furniture was destroyed – although no one was injured. The shelter had to close its doors for the first time in 35 years because of the storm, she said.
The shelter is the latest charitable organisation the couple have helped since stepping away from their royal duties.
“We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity,” the couple wrote last year on their foundation’s website. “We have experienced compassion and kindness. From our mothers and strangers alike."
Their statement adds: “In the face of fear, struggle and pain, it can be easy to lose sight of this. Together, we can choose courage, healing and connection. Together, we can choose to put compassion in action.”

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.

Ziina users can donate to relief efforts in Beirut
Ziina users will be able to use the app to help relief efforts in Beirut, which has been left reeling after an August blast caused an estimated $15 billion in damage and left thousands homeless. Ziina has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to raise money for the Lebanese capital, co-founder Faisal Toukan says. “As of October 1, the UNHCR has the first certified badge on Ziina and is automatically part of user's top friends' list during this campaign. Users can now donate any amount to the Beirut relief with two clicks. The money raised will go towards rebuilding houses for the families that were impacted by the explosion.”

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
