Israel intercepts third missile launched from Yemen in 24 hours

Israel on Friday said its defences intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, the third to be fired in less than 24 hours.

"Following the alerts ... one missile launched from Yemen was intercepted," the army said in a statement.

Yemen's Houthi rebels confirmed the attack, saying they targeted the Ben Gurion Airport using a "hypersonic ballistic missile".

In a televised speech, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group would continue to attack Israel until lifted the siege and stopped its war in Gaza.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after the Israeli military said it intercepted two missiles launched by the Houthis, which caused a brief suspension of flights at Ben Gurion.

Earlier this month, a missile launched from Yemen landed near the airport, injuring several people in a rare failure of Israel's air defences.

Undeterred by Israeli and US strikes, the Iran-backed Houthis have continued to fire missiles at Israel in what they describe as an act of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, although they have agreed to halt attacks on US ships.

An Israel strike on May 6 damaged the airport in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. Other attacks last week hit the Red Sea ports of Hodeidah and Salif.

Since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, the Houthis have launched dozens of missile and drone attacks against Israel, most of which have been intercepted or fell short.

Classification of skills

A worker is categorised as skilled by the MOHRE based on nine levels given in the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) issued by the International Labour Organisation.
