I refer to your excellent article Basketball stars Academy: Inside Gaza's new sports club for girls (July 27).
Ashleigh Stewart and Fady Hanona’s article was a great read. Today, as it always has, sport is playing a vital role in shaping the lives of young people.
That a basketball club for girls has been created in
Gaza shows just how important this is.
The United States is known for basketball teams and academies, with players from all over the world flocking there. Playing the sport will give young people a connection to a wider world, which is very important.
Gaza, even with all its problems, has taken a bold step with this initiative. The future of sports is much broader than just football and cricket.

The world has to come together to help migrants
I refer to the report Libyan rescuers find dozens of bodies after 'worst' migrant tragedy this year (July 28).
It is a sad situation that refugees from countries hit by unrest have been allowed to be an issue of concern for the world community for such a long time, with so little action.
There have been several migrant boat tragedies that have taken the lives of many innocent people, yet there is no end to the crisis.
Because of the tragedies playing out in their home countries, these people have been forced to attempt to relocate for mere survival.
The efforts of aid agencies cannot be overlooked.
They need support from developed countries and organisations for their endless struggle to save these precious lives.
A strong international approach to migration is the need of the hour. The world must line up to take decisive steps to end this grim reality.

Man’s best friend isn’t as popular as he used to be
I refer to your article Why Jumeirah Village Triangle is no longer Dubai's most dog-friendly community (July 27). The author of the article is right, it is very difficult to find a place here where dogs are allowed, but banning them in your neighbourhood parks is a really tough situation both for dogs and pet owners.
