This country loves cars – to the point where even people who don’t own a vehicle enjoy a touch of car-spotting. There is no shortage of high-performance, specially modified or limited-release marques to admire. But it’s not just the fast, expensive or unique vehicles that attract attention – sometimes it’s the sheer ubiquity of a particular model that makes us look twice.
As The National reported over the weekend, the "average" vehicle, based on advertising data from a popular car-sales website, is a white 2010 Mitsubishi Pajero. Overall, the most popular car make for 2016 was Toyota (perhaps thanks to all those silver taxis in Abu Dhabi), followed by Nissan, Ford, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Of course, there are a few people who see the motor vehicle merely as a means of getting about and doing the daily chores. But most of us do have a favourite – be it the car we own or the car we’d like to own – and one or two we’d prefer never to see again. What are yours?
