Timo Glock said Lewis Hamilton won the drivers' championship by his own skills shown throughout the season and not because of the German's tyre choice for the final laps of Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.
Glock opted to stay on dry-weather tyres as light rain fell in the closing stages and though he did not lose too much time initially, the final lap proved crucial as Hamilton passed him in the last few hundred metres to give the Briton the fifth place he needed to win the title at the expense of Ferrari's Felipe Massa.
The German said: "That last lap just cost us the chance to be in the top five, and in the end decided the world championship.
"I think at the end I didn't give the title to Lewis, I think they worked for that the whole year, and Felipe as well," he said.
"I think it's exactly what the fans want to see - maybe the Brazilian fans are not on my side any more but I tried my best."

Anti-semitic attacks
The annual report by the Community Security Trust, which advises the Jewish community on security , warned on Thursday that anti-Semitic incidents in Britain had reached a record high.
It found there had been 2,255 anti-Semitic incidents reported in 2021, a rise of 34 per cent from the previous year.
The report detailed the convictions of a number of people for anti-Semitic crimes, including one man who was jailed for setting up a neo-Nazi group which had encouraged “the eradication of Jewish people” and another who had posted anti-Semitic homemade videos on social media.
