The Indian team's visit of Pakistan has been approved. Not to play cricket but tennis. The Davis Cup squad will travel to Pakistan for the first time in 55 years to compete in an Asia/Oceania Group 1 tie in Islamabad, the Asian News International news agency quoted a senior official of the All India Tennis Association as saying on Sunday. The tie is scheduled to be held on September 14 and 15 at the Pakistan Sports Complex in the nation's capital city. "Yes, we will go. It is not a bilateral series, it's a World Cup of tennis so we have to go," AITA secretary secretary-general Hironmoy Chatterjee said with regard to the draw, which was released in February. "There was no communication with the government as it's a world event, [and] we have to abide by the IOC [International Olympic Committee] charter." Chatterjee also confirmed a team of six players will travel to Pakistan, along with a coach and support staff. Relations between the neighbours have been strained since a terrorist attack killed more than 40 Indian soldiers in the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir on February 14. The latest of many flashpoints between the countries had put a question mark on the tennis team's travel plans. India and Pakistan last played in a Davis Cup tie in 2006 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, in which the hosts managed to register a 3-2 win to take India's head-to-head tally against Pakistan to 6-0. AITA is yet to announce the final squad.
