Tottenham Hotspur have yet to receive a suitable bid for in-demand midfielder Luka Modric, insists the club's new manager Andre Villas Boas.
Real Madrid reportedly head the queue for the 26-year-old Croatia international, who has been heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane for the second summer running.
Yet the club says it has yet to receive an offer which matches their valuation of the playmaker, and without a successful bid they expect Modric to return to training with the rest of the first team.
"The player has to understand that the club can't do anything about other clubs' offers," said Villas-Boas. "We have a value and an interest that we have to defend and we are waiting for if the offer is not met to reintegrate the player.
"It's obviously difficult for him but the chairman is defending the club's interest and value. The player has to understand that we want also to look at this current situation, but the fact that the offer doesn't meet the chairman's demands means we cannot do anything.
"The player is a good professional, and hopefully he will return to the team."

Roberto Mancini, the Manchester City manager, appears resigned to losing out in the race to sign Robin van Persie this summer, according to reports from the UK.
The English Premier League champions are one of the clubs - alongside rivals Manchester United and Italian giants Juventus - who have been pursuing the player since he announced last month he would not be signing a new contract at Arsenal.
But the race for the 29-year-old Holland star has dragged on through the summer, and now Mancini - who has yet to land a signing this summer - admits his hopes of signing the player look slim.
"Van Persie? No, I don't think he will come here," he is quoted in several UK newspapers today.

Stuttgart have signed Bosnian teenage striker Marko Maletic on a three year deal from FC Utrecht.
The 18-year-old, who started his career as a youth player at De Graafschap, has been hotly tipped after impressing with Bosnia-Herzegovina's under 17 and under 19 squads.

Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt says he remains confident Klaas Jan Huntelaar will commit to a new deal at the club.
The Dutchman was the Bundesliga's top goalscorer last season with 29 strikes, but his current contract with the Gelsenkirchen club expires at the end of the season.
Talks over a new deal have yet to take place and Heldt says he is waiting for a signal from the 28-year-old that he wants to stay at the club.
"It is up to Huntelaar," he said.
"We want to extend his contract and I believe that it would make sense for both parties."But we need him to be 100% convinced. I cannot force any player to sign a new contract."
However, Heldt believes his club can offer Huntelaar everything he needs to be fulfilled.
Not only is Gelsenkirchen close to the Dutch border, enabling him still to live in his home country and commute, but Schalke have also qualified for the Champions League once again and are one of the contenders for the Bundesliga title.

US international Maurice Edu admits he will have to leave Rangers for the sake of his World Cup hopes.

What is THAAD?
It is considered to be the US's most superior missile defence system.

Coffee: black death or elixir of life?
It is among the greatest health debates of our time; splashed across newspapers with contradicting headlines - is coffee good for you or not?
Depending on what you read, it is either a cancer-causing, sleep-depriving, stomach ulcer-inducing black death or the secret to long life, cutting the chance of stroke, diabetes and cancer.
The latest research - a study of 8,412 people across the UK who each underwent an MRI heart scan - is intended to put to bed (caffeine allowing) conflicting reports of the pros and cons of consumption.
The study, funded by the British Heart Foundation, contradicted previous findings that it stiffens arteries, putting pressure on the heart and increasing the likelihood of a heart attack or stroke, leading to warnings to cut down.
Numerous studies have recognised the benefits of coffee in cutting oral and esophageal cancer, the risk of a stroke and cirrhosis of the liver.
The benefits are often linked to biologically active compounds including caffeine, flavonoids, lignans, and other polyphenols, which benefit the body. These and othetr coffee compounds regulate genes involved in DNA repair, have anti-inflammatory properties and are associated with lower risk of insulin resistance, which is linked to type-2 diabetes.
But as doctors warn, too much of anything is inadvisable. The British Heart Foundation found the heaviest coffee drinkers in the study were most likely to be men who smoked and drank alcohol regularly.
Excessive amounts of coffee also unsettle the stomach causing or contributing to stomach ulcers. It also stains the teeth over time, hampers absorption of minerals and vitamins like zinc and iron.
It also raises blood pressure, which is largely problematic for people with existing conditions.
So the heaviest drinkers of the black stuff - some in the study had up to 25 cups per day - may want to rein it in.

Tips to stay safe during hot weather
