Steve Kean, the Blackburn manager, has described new signing David Goodwillie as a "great addition" and believes the Scotland international will offer something different to his squad. Goodwillie joined Blackburn on a four-year contract from Dundee United earlier this week for a fee believed to have been an initial £2 million (Dh11.97m). "He's an exciting young player and I think it was time for him to move from Scotland, he was Young Player of the Year up there, scoring 18 goals which is something we can certainly do with," Kean told the club's website.
Arsenal
Cesc Fabregas looks set for his first Arsenal pre-season appearance in today's final friendly against Benfica, but it remains to be seen whether the Spain midfielder will feature in the Champions League play-off against Udinese. Should Fabregas - who has, officially at least, been troubled by a hamstring problem - feature against Udinese, the first leg set for Emirates Stadium on August 16, then he would be ineligible to play in the competition for Barcelona should a move go through ahead of the transfer deadline.
Manchester City
City have signed the goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon from Poli Timisoara. The 24-year-old Romanian joins the club as cover for No 1 Joe Hart following the departure of Shay Given to Aston Villa. Pantilimon, who was signed for an undisclosed fee, is expected to overtake Stuart Taylor and Gunnar Nielsen - City's other keeping options - to act as Hart's deputy. Pantilimon made his senior international debut in 2008 and played against City twice in the Europa League last season, conceding three times.
Liverpool
Milan Jovanovic has left Liverpool to join Anderlecht after a single season at the Anfield club. The Reds confirmed yesterday that the out-of-favour forward had completed a deal to join the Belgian side. Jovanovic, now 30, joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Standard Liege last summer, but failed to establish himself. "Milan Jovanovic has today completed his move from Liverpool to Anderlecht," a statement on Liverpool's official Twitter page read.
Norwich City
Russell Martin hopes a strong showing for Norwich in the Premier League will help boost his Scotland ambitions. Martin was a consistent performer during Norwich's promotion run and the 25-year-old full-back made his senior international debut over the summer, but has not been included in the squad for next week's game with Denmark. "I was disappointed when the squad was announced not to be in it, but [Alan] Hutton has proved himself at that level and obviously [Steven] Whittaker has been playing for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully I will play some games down here and do all right and force my way back into it," Martin said in the Eastern Daily Press.
Wolves
Mick McCarthy, the Wolves manager, is certain his decision to take the captain's armband from Karl Henry will not affect his attitude or form this season. McCarthy has made new recruit Roger Johnson the captain. The former Republic of Ireland coach said Henry's reaction to the decision has been professional. "He reacted as I'd expect him to do," the manager said. "He got on with it, and keeps on doing what he does. He cannot let it affect his performances and he won't."

How will Gen Alpha invest?
Mark Chahwan, co-founder and chief executive of robo-advisory firm Sarwa, forecasts that Generation Alpha (born between 2010 and 2024) will start investing in their teenage years and therefore benefit from compound interest.
“Technology and education should be the main drivers to make this happen, whether it’s investing in a few clicks or their schools/parents stepping up their personal finance education skills,” he adds.
Mr Chahwan says younger generations have a higher capacity to take on risk, but for some their appetite can be more cautious because they are investing for the first time. “Schools still do not teach personal finance and stock market investing, so a lot of the learning journey can feel daunting and intimidating,” he says.
He advises millennials to not always start with an aggressive portfolio even if they can afford to take risks. “We always advise to work your way up to your risk capacity, that way you experience volatility and get used to it. Given the higher risk capacity for the younger generations, stocks are a favourite,” says Mr Chahwan.
Highlighting the role technology has played in encouraging millennials and Gen Z to invest, he says: “They were often excluded, but with lower account minimums ... a customer with $1,000 [Dh3,672] in their account has their money working for them just as hard as the portfolio of a high get-worth individual.”

Five famous companies founded by teens
There are numerous success stories of teen businesses that were created in college dorm rooms and other modest circumstances. Below are some of the most recognisable names in the industry:
- Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg and his friends started Facebook when he was a 19-year-old Harvard undergraduate.
- Dell: When Michael Dell was an undergraduate student at Texas University in 1984, he started upgrading computers for profit. He starting working full-time on his business when he was 19. Eventually, his company became the Dell Computer Corporation and then Dell Inc.
- Subway: Fred DeLuca opened the first Subway restaurant when he was 17. In 1965, Mr DeLuca needed extra money for college, so he decided to open his own business. Peter Buck, a family friend, lent him $1,000 and together, they opened Pete’s Super Submarines. A few years later, the company was rebranded and called Subway.
- Mashable: In 2005, Pete Cashmore created Mashable in Scotland when he was a teenager. The site was then a technology blog. Over the next few decades, Mr Cashmore has turned Mashable into a global media company.
- Oculus VR: Palmer Luckey founded Oculus VR in June 2012, when he was 19. In August that year, Oculus launched its Kickstarter campaign and raised more than $1 million in three days. Facebook bought Oculus for $2 billion two years later.
