An animated film that tells the story a ghaf tree that has been left growing on the Dubai Expo 2020 site has been released. The ghaf, the UAE's national tree, is featured as a character names Salama in the film, and starting from its roots it tells the story of how it has endured the harsh desert conditions through changing times. The tree is considered in local culture to be similar to the UAE, as it flourishes under all circumstances. Salama witnesses the country through the ages, starting with unification in 1971 and concludes with it perched on a hill overlooking the site of Expo 2020. Organisers preserved the tree on the event’s site, despite heavy construction. The Dubai Expo will run for six months from October 20.
