Arabic edition of MIT's prestigious technology journal launched

An Arabic edition of a prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology journal is being launched by Dubai Future Foundation and Haykal Media.

The first edition of MIT's Technology Review is expected in May and the website is set to launch before that. The journal is affiliated to the American institute, which is rated among the world's best seats of learning.

MIT's Technology Review "innovators under 35 awards" will also be brought to the region. Over the years, the annual list has featured influential international innovators, such as the inventors of Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Google. Now there will be a new list for outstanding Arab innovators under 35. It will be the first time it's done here.

It was also announced that Dubai is to host the global technology Emerging Technologies Conference (EmTech) from September 23 to 24.

EmTech attracts industry leaders from across the world and is being held in the region for the first time. The innovators list will be announced here.

Khalfan Belhoul is the chief executive of the Dubai Future Foundation.

“The platform, along with the conference and innovators under 35 awards, is an ideal opportunity for professionals and entrepreneurs to meet with decision makers, exchange experiences and ideas and learn about the latest scientific and technological innovations," he said.

Abdulsalam Haykal, founder and chairman of Haykal Media, said that the introduction of an Arabic edition of the MIT Technology Review would enhance access to specialised content. "The MIT Technology Review magazine in its Arabic edition, along with the annual EmTech Conference and the innovation awards encourage innovation, promote scientific research and inspire young Arabs to enter this sector."

MIT Technology Review looks at emerging technologies. Arabic will become the magazine's eighth language after English, Chinese, Japanese, German, Italian, Spanish and Urdu.
