Cleaner ‘stole Dh8,000 ring’ left to employer by her late aunt

DUBAI // A cleaner stole an Dh8,000 ring from her British employer, who did not remember the jewellery until police sent her a picture of it on social media.

Officers sent the picture on WhatsApp after the cleaner was arrested for stealing another ring, this time from a French client, 30, on April 27.

“I didn’t notice the ring was missing but I received a call from Naif police asking me if I had lost a ring,” said the Briton, 32.

“I told them I couldn’t remember but when they sent me a picture of the ring through WhatsApp, I remembered it was a gift from my aunt nine years ago.”

The Filipina cleaner, 33, confessed to the thefts to police, prosecutors and before the Dubai Criminal Court on Monday morning.

Prosecutors said that she was hired by the Briton in March through a cleaning company.

A verdict is scheduled for June 19.
