Chinese tourist convicted of murder loses appeal over life sentence

A Chinese tourist jailed for life after killing a compatriot in a Dubai brothel brawl has lost an appeal against his sentence.

The killer, 54, stabbed the man to death during a heated exchange in which the victim had smashed a bottle over his head.

He denied premeditated murder in relation to the June 27 incident at Dubai Criminal Court, but was convicted of the charge.

The life term was upheld at Dubai Court of Appeal on Sunday.

The age of the victim was not disclosed in court records.

Prison sentences of one and five years handed to two Chinese men, aged 41 and 51, for hiding a dead body, failing to report a murder to police and running a brothel, were also upheld.

Seven women, aged between 24 and 38, failed to overturn five-year prison terms for failing to report the murder and working as prostitutes in the brothel, in Naif, Dubai.
