DUBAI // A man was today acquitted of threatening to kill his ex-business partner.
The American executive NY, 47, was accused of making the threat against DA, a 47-year-old Iranian with whom he used to own a restaurant in The Gardens area of Dubai.
The Dubai Criminal Court heard the two men met in October 2010 to discuss their former partnership and that the American threatened to kill the Iranian if he did not reinstate him as a partner. The Iranian said that his former partner threatened to harm the business and get "powerful people" in the UAE and Iran to harm him. He also said that the American insulted him in front of the restaurant's customers, calling him a thief and a liar.
Two witnesses told the court that they heard the American insulting the Iranian.
However, the American denied the charges and was acquitted of making threats to kill.
He was referred to the Misdemeanours Court to face a separate charge of insulting DA in public.
