Robber threatens to set mafia on victim, Dubai court told

DUBAI // A student robbed a woman then telephoned her and told her he would set the Turkish mafia on her if she did not drop the complaint, the Criminal Court heard yesterday.

HS, 24, from Iran called the woman on March 12 this year and made the threat, but the phone was on loud speaker and the woman's friend overheard.

She heard the student say that he was in Istanbul and that he would send mafia members from there to kill her if she did not do as he said.

The student was not present in court to enter a plea. Court records did not clarify what he allegedly stole from the woman.

The case was adjourned to April 7.
