Emirati father killed, two injured in Nepal car crash

DUBAI // An Emirati man was killed and his two sons injured in a road accident while on a rafting holiday in Nepal.

Abdullah Abdul Rahman, 46, died when the car in which he and his sons were travelling crashed about 150 kilometres from Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon.

He and his sons, 20, and 22, were travelling from Nepal’s capitalto Pokhara when the car crashed into another vehicle.

“The UAE national lost his life when the cars collided on a narrow mountain road,” said the district police superintendent, Gopi Nan Shrestha.

“Five people were injured in the accident, including people in the other car. The air bags saved the passengers in the other car.

The UAE man’s sons received minor injuries to their hands.”

An official at Damauli Hospital, where the two sons were taken for treatment, said they were discharged this afternoon.

The driver of their car, a Nepali, was seriously injured. He told police he was forced to swerve on to the other side of the road to avoid a motorcycle.

Mr Shrestha said: “The driver has three ribs broken. One of the passengers in the other car has a broken arm. The driver told us that a motorbike suddenly crossed the car’s path and to avoid the motorbike he moved on to the other side and hit the oncoming car.”

White water rafting is a popular sport in Nepal and rivers near Kathmandu and Pokhara attract thousands of tourists every year.
