The Abu Dhabi Awards for Excellence in Government Performance rewards those who excel and the winners include a man who solved the issue of child camel jockeys to a woman who improved the lives of special-needs people and prepared Braille copies of the Quran.
Name: Majed Al Kathiri
Entity: Abu Dhabi Municipality
Medal: Chairman of the Executive Council Medal in the technical field
Majed Al Kathiri, head of traffic services section at Abu Dhabi Municipality, has met all the requirements of excellence.
Mr Al Kathiri excelled in his job and moved his career forward by enhancing his competence skills as well as his passion that drives him to contribute more to Abu Dhabi Municipality.
He has contributed to a reduction of power consumption and traffic offences. By using the LED lighting system at traffic lights, power consumption was reduced by up to 45 per cent. He also made a proposal of flashing green signals that resulted in reducing red-light jumping offences by 50 per cent at several junctions.
His excellence was demonstrated when he submitted the GCC unified traffic draft manual to GCC transport ministers for approval. The guide will help overcome obstacles to the exchange of information between the GCC countries on traffic offences and on mechanisms of electronic payment. It will also maximise traffic cooperation to achieve the desired aspirations.

Medal: Chairman of the Executive Council Medal for the dedicated, long-serving employees
During his long tenure, Brig Najm Abdullah Al Hossani’s ambition has never ceased and he was able to combine leadership, social responsibility, initiative and creativity, all of which have had a remarkable impact on his subordinates.
He managed to shift the image of a policeman as a “ rigid character” to a sociable character that deals with family crimes and helps to solve them.
Brig Al Hossani, head of Social Support Centres Department of Abu Dhabi Police, deserved to be among the 10 winners of this medal for the dedicated, long-serving employees, a category of Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.
Brig Al Hossani showed dedication to his high skills in conflict resolution, with the ability to analyse problems and find the best solutions. He taught his staff these skills to achieve the best professional practices.
Humanitarian activity is a large part of Brig Al Hossani’s professional life. He solved the issue of child camel jockeys and returned 1,057 children to their homes, an initiative that exceeded expectations and earned him the appreciation of many officials.
He is the recipient of three medals for honest service and a medal for excellent performance. He drafted laws on human trafficking and child protection. On a management level, Brig Al Hossani was able to achieve the goals of his department by 100 per cent, for which he earned an award.
Name: Mohra Al Dhaheri
Entity: Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority
Medal: Chairman of the Executive Council Medal in administrative support
Mohra Al Dhaheri’s visual impairment did not stop her from proving her worth and excellence at work. Her achievements are not restricted to the UAE as she became a professor certified by the United Nations to teach Braille to special-needs people.
Ms Al Dhaheri’s numerous awards, certificates of appreciation and the praise she has received for excellent performance were incentives to boost her excellence and perfect the tasks assigned to her. She was always ready to offer help to anyone.
She has made interesting proposals, held events and conferences on the activity of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority; prepared food safety publications in Braille that aim to improve outputs for special-needs people and ensure they had the basic skills to achieve excellence in their job performance.
Ms Al Dhaheri is also active in promoting the role of ADFCA with government bodies and expanding its network of partners.
She always seeks to highlight special-needs people as an important pillar of the community and a key factor in the progress of society. Furthermore, she suggested training programmes for her colleagues on how to deal with people with special needs and prepared Braille copies of the Quran.
Name: Abdullah Al Darmaki
Entity: Al Ain Municipality
Medal: Medal of the Chairman of the Executive Council in the field of Administrative Supervision
Abdullah Al Darmaki is the director of the Performance Department at Al Ain City Municipality. Mr Al Darmaki fulfilled all entrusted duties and initiated work and projects outside his scope of responsibilities.
He achieved outstanding results throughout various departments of the municipality in vital projects such as the transport services project, the process engineering project and the smart government project.
Mr Al Darmaki possesses high leadership skills to delegate authority and distribute responsibilities, in addition to effective follow-up. He also works on training second-tier leadership through a professional succession programme and assigning multiple responsibilities. This helped him develop a strategy that allows employees to be creative, take greater responsibility and be productive under pressure. This also allowed him to develop employees’ positive thinking through their sense of responsibility and teamwork.
Mr Al Darmaki earned this distinction by cooperating with his employees, encouraging them to be creative, listening to their ideas and sharing ideas with them. He was thus able to assess their needs and accordingly improve the working environment, which has helped increase the efficiency of the department’s activities. This led to an increase in productivity and high levels of efficiency, while ensuring the best services to the public.
Name: Tareq Al Kindi
Entity: Abu Dhabi Police General Command
Medal: Medal of the Chairman of the Executive Council for Field Work
Rescue coach Tareq Al Kindi achieved all levels of excellence through his work at the General Administration of the Central Rescue Operations Department and became one of the department’s symbols of excellence. He is renowned among Abu Dhabi Police for excellence in his line of work.
Mr Al Kindi took 33 training courses that allowed him to increase his knowledge in the field of search and rescue. The skills he acquired contributed to his career.
His ability to work with teams and his participation in the Emirates Search and Rescue Team, the team responsible for the preparation of material and manuals on rescue, and his work with the quality team, is reflected in his leadership and decision-making skills. Mr Al Kindi’s initiatives constitute a direct and indirect contribution to the development of his department.

Kuleithim Saeed Al Nuaimi is an employee in the Geographic Information and Town Planning Department at Al Ain City Municipality.
Her Medal of the Chairman of the Executive Council for the New Employee category was well-deserved, given Ms Al Nuaimi’s high performance and great efforts as an analyst in the studies and research section.
The section concurred to the development and facilitation of working mechanisms through the use of advanced technology and methods to serve members of the public and customers.
Ms Al Nuaimi’s excellence in work and strong initiatives significantly contributed to the development of Al Ain Municipality.
She raised various suggestions that defined the key project management elements in the shift to an electronic system, thus raising productivity and increasing customer satisfaction.
She led the team that developed an interactive map based on electronic plans, which led to increasing the number of users to more than 700 last year.
Ms Al Nuaimi’s creative methods, perseverance and ambition were key to her success.
She successfully helped develop the licensing system at Al Ain Municipality as well as an application for geospatial data that won the award for Best International Application at the Geospatial Exhibition in the Netherlands last year.
Name: Ruqaya Nasser Al Saadi
Entity: Zayed Higher Foundation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs
Medal Category: the chairman of the executive office's medal for specialisation
Ruqaya Nasser Al Saadi works as a specialised instructor at the early intervention unit in the Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation and Care Centre for People with Special Needs, an affiliate of the Zayed Higher Foundation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs.
With her excellent IT skills, she was able to find technical solutions for pending problems at her organisation and developed operating systems. Ms Al Saadi volunteers with special-needs children and she participated in a number of the centre’s entertainment and educational activities.
She was responsible for initiatives to enhance performance at the early intervention unit. She created applications for tablets and smartphones in Arabic sign language that were downloaded by more than 300 people in several countries.
Ms Al Saadi was chosen as an “Ambassador for Knowledge” and received the distinguished employee title for her creative ideas and suggestions.
Name: Omniat Al Hajiri

Dr Omniat Al Hajiri is the director of the Public Health and Research Department at Health Authority –Abu Dhabi. She has numerous achievements in her position and her efforts made her a role model for Haad employees. Dr Al Hajiri graduated with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons and holds a Masters in Public Health and Administration with honours from Johns Hopkins University in the US. She is a member of the Royal Fellowship of Doctors in Ireland and the UK and has been awarded 25 academic medals.
She was awarded the Sheikh Hamdan Award for Scientific Excellence and the Higher Council of the Irish Royal College Award.
She is an elected member of the Delta Omega Society for outstanding achievement in the US and she has written a book on surgery for medical students, which remains in use and has been reprinted several times in Ireland since 2000.
Dr Al Hajiri restructured a number of key departments at the authority, which led to better outputs.
Name: Suhail Al Khaili

Medal Category: Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office's medal for excellence in customer service (Supervisory)
Col Suhail Al Khaili is head of vehicle licensing section at the vehicles and drivers licensing department in Abu Dhabi Police and is responsible for 17 new initiatives.
The colonel has demonstrated a heightened sense of creativity in using his initiative and suggestions to enhance the efficiency of police staff and to link relevant departments with partners through the electronic archiving system, which saved the police command almost Dh31 million.
He has an exemplary customer service track record as he embodied the concept of a multitasking employee who completes transactions in minutes, thus improving his department’s image and performance.
On a personal level, Col Al Khaili has numerous achievements to his name. His insistence on excellence at everything he does has earned him many medals of honour and certificates of appreciation.
He has achieved positive results for his department over the years. He developed integrated plans for his team, which were fully and successfully implemented. He worked on comparative studies about the best methods to implement education systems in traffic schools in the UAE and he benefited from global developments in this domain, which he implemented at his department and contributed to reducing expenditures and increasing revenues.
Name: Saada Al Mansouri
Entity: Family Development Foundation
Medal: Chairman of the Executive Office of Abu Dhabi Medal for her outstanding achievements in the field of customer service (non-supervisory)
Saada Al Mansouri’s award is one of the most prestigious accolades that Abu Dhabi government bestows on its employees.
Ms Al Mansouri works as a programme and events coordinator at the community service department at the Family Development Foundation. Her excellent communication and time-management skills have earned her the respect of customers and colleagues.
She believes in the importance of pre-planning for achieving objectives and enhancing efficiency. Her sense of initiative has helped her tremendously in breaking through social barriers and helped her come up or adopt new initiatives. She is always the first to implement and assess experimental programmes at the foundation with the objective of improving performance and implementing the foundation’s general aim.
Ms Al Mansouri contributed in doubling the number of participations in the foundation’s programmes and she introduced many improvements to the Barakat Al Dar programme, which led to an increase in beneficiaries.
