First batch of Emirati recruits to undergo extended national service begin training



The first set of conscripts to undergo extended national service arrived at UAE Armed Forces training centres on Sunday.

Emirati men, aged between 18 and 30, reported to four training camps across the country, where they will undergo physical and military training. The camps are in Liwa, Al Ain and Ajman and the conscripts are the tenth batch for the academic year 2017-2018.

The recruits will take part in an integrated training programme, developed according to the best international standards, reported state news agency Wam.

In the first phase, they will be introduced to military exercises, which include training on how to handle and operate weapons, military discipline, fitness training, and development of leadership skills.

Last month, the General Command of the Armed Forces announced it was extending the training period from 12 to 16 months. Those who do not have a high school qualification will serve three years.

Maj Gen Pilot Sheikh Ahmad Al Nahyan, chairman of National and Reserve Service Authority, said he was proud of those who have joined to serve their country. He said national service would instil values of loyalty, discipline, strength and commitment in the conscripts.

What are the guidelines?

Aged 6-12 years: Set consistent limits on screen time to ensure it does not interfere with sleep, physical activity, or social interactions.
