The UAE Cabinet has approved plans for a new advanced skills strategy, aimed at maintaining the country's "competitive edge".
The Strategy for the Advanced Skills National Programme is being rolled out to ensure the UAE remains at the forefront of global advancements in key areas such as education and the economy.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who chaired the cabinet meeting, said the wide-ranging policy is being adopted to ensure Emiratis are fully prepared for an ever-changing society.
Sheikh Mohammed said education was a vital part of the blueprint for the future of the nation.

"We want Emiratis to be prepared for the changes around us and equipped with advanced skills that maintain UAE’s competitive edge," said Sheikh Mohammed.
As part of the master plan, advanced skills required in the UAE government and the job market will be identified in a collaboration with more than 70 companies and groups representing 13 sectors, locally and globally.
The UAE government will work with the public and private sector, academic institutions, as well as students and employees to help future-proof the country.
The cabinet announced the formation of an Advanced Skills Council, boasting representatives from a raft of authorities, including the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, and Knowledge and Human Development Authority, to oversee the initiative.
During the meeting, the cabinet gave the go-ahead for the foundation of the Higher Committee for the Services of People of Determination in the UAE.
The committee will assess the challenges faced by disabled people, referred to as People of Determination by UAE authorities, and propose policies and programmes to improve their lives.
