A "new, dynamic" style of governance will lead the country over the next 50 years, the UAE's leaders heard on Tuesday.

On the first day of a government retreat to draft a comprehensive, 50-year development strategy for the Emirates, Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, presented an idea for a collaborative and energetic governance model.

Mr Al Gergawi said this would lead federal ministries, departments and institutions as part of the national priorities for the UAE's next phase.

He said the next half century called for full collaboration among public, semi-private and private sectors, under an integrated system, to develop innovative work models.

Mr Al Gergawi also said a comprehensive media strategy would be developed to share the UAE’s story with the world under a unified media identity.

Each of these strategies will form the draft of an advanced work plan that aims to boost the UAE's global positioning.

The retreat continues on Wednesday with ministers and officials gathering together to put forward a series of plans and initiatives.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, is leading the event with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE  Armed Forces.

Government officials were split into working groups and each presented with anticipated challenges to address with a plan that must include defined responsibilities and specific goals.

Two committees were set up last year to form plans for the country’s future and the Golden Jubilee celebration, and present them to the UAE Cabinet.

The 50-Year Preparedness Plan will focus on six areas: government; society; economy; education; infrastructure and environmental sustainability; and security and justice.

On December 2, 2021, the country will be 50 years old.

Throughout this year, decision-makers will put the spotlight on its rapid journey to present day, and the challenges and opportunities the next half-century will bring.
