The Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Mosque opens in Dubai

A new mosque which will serve more than 900 worshippers has been opened in Dubai.

The Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Mosque, in Al Quoz, was inaugurated by the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, on Thursday.

The building complex of the mosque, which spans 38,000 square feet, will also boast a library, a Quran learning school and a hall exclusively for female worshippers.

The place of worship, which is inspired by Islamic architecture, is named after Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the late son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, who died of a heart attack in September, 2015.

It is one of several mosques that are to be built in his honour.

The ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
