An Indonesian housemaid is facing jail for stealing Dh4,600 from her sponsor’s wallet while he was asleep.
The sponsor, from the Gulf, told public prosecution that the housemaid had denied the theft initially but other items were found in her room that she stole from the sponsor’s wife, including four watches, women’s clothing and a bottle of perfume.
If found guilty, the defendant faces a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of seven years. The verdict is due on January 7.
