Jail for Saudi who crashed car in Dubai while overdosing on drugs



DUBAI // A Saudi student high on drugs who drove his vehicle recklessly and hit a railing before crashing into another car was sentenced to four years in jail by Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday.

F A, 26, and his Iraqi friend M A, 20, were arrested on November 15 last year for consuming drugs after the Saudi drove his car while under the influence of drugs and caused a crash. M A was sentenced to a year in jail.

Both men were charged with consuming drugs. F A alone was additionally charged with driving while under the influence of drugs, driving recklessly and with causing a crash.

A forensic report said that F A had taken an overdose and was referred to hospital for treatment. He also suffered from a fractured nose but no other serious injuries were found on him.

The men were not in court last month to face charges, however, they are now both behind bars and will be deported after completing their sentences.

It was not revealed what drug the men were taking.
