Man locked up for attacking shop boss at Global Village released from jail

A man locked up for attacking a female shop owner at Global Village has had his three-year jail term overturned.

The man, aged 37 and from Palestine, was imprisoned in March after being convicted of the assault and three counts of issuing death threats against the same woman at the Dubai tourist attraction.

He was accused of threatening to slit the woman's throat and calling her a witch during an incident on December 21 of last year.

He faced being deported from the UAE upon his release from prison.

But Dubai Court of Appeal has now acquitted him, instead ordering that he be admitted to a treatment facility.

It was not made clear in court records what type of facility the man was being admitted to or whether his appeal was against the severity of his sentence or the charges as a whole.
