Seven dead and 35 injured in Dubai bus crash



DUBAI // Seven people have died and 35 were injured in a bus crash in Dubai on Tuesday morning.

Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst. It collided with a lorry on the opposite side of the road.

“The accident took place at 8am when the bus driver swerved into the opposite road and hit a lorry,” said Col Saif Al Mazrouei, director of Dubai traffic police. “The bus driver lost control after his vehicle’s tyre burst.”

Twenty two of the passengers were trapped in the bus, including the bus driver, said Brig Mohammed Al Razouqi, director of the police transport and rescue department.

Rescue crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free them from the wreckage, Brig Al Razouqi said.

The accident happened on Al Yalayis Road close to Dubai Investments Park in the Jebel Ali area. There was heavy traffic in the area for hours after the crash.

The injured were taken to Rashid Hospital, which has a major crash accident trauma ward.
